A reliable seamstress to a woman is what a reliable butcher is to an expert chef:  INDESPENSIBLE.  Tailoring is your wardrobe’s greatest asset.  Too often, women are willing to settle for off-the-rack fit, even when that fit doesn’t really fit at all.

More expensive clothes are clearly worth having altered, but less expensive pieces can benefit from a nip or tuck as well.  Any piece that you wear regularly is worth having altered, if the fit isn’t perfect.

When you have your clothes tailored, wear the correct shoes and undergarments.  And there’s no such thing as a pant length that can be worn with both flats and heels.  Let your preferences be known—if you prefer pants length closer to the floor or skirt length to the knee.

Tailoring is about getting the proper fit, no matter what the garment.  If your clothing bags, droops, pulls, puckers, gapes, bunches, doesn’t hang properly or it is too big or to tight, either get rid of it or rescue it with suitable alterations.

If you’re having something that you know will need to be altered, be sure it fits your fullest areas—the rest can be taken in.

We are all individuals, unique in so many ways and told to love our bodies; despite this, we can provide a list of all our figure faults or to be more politically correct “challenges”.  However, many of us will walk into a store and expect to find a garment that fits perfectly.  There is a list of issues to be taken into consideration:

1. What fabric the garment is made of.

1. The scale they use for their sizing.

You can purchase garments that seem to fit okay, but why not alter them to make them look GREAT and create a shapelier appearance, a more sophisticated look and a more polished style.  Having your clothes altered makes all the difference in creating the illusion of a thinner, sleeker you.
